Introduction

This blog was created as a means of me sharing my thoughts and views on traditional medicine in general and those of my people in particular. Your comments along the way will help me in my work on Traditional Medicine of the Malays - thus the title of the blog - Ubat Orang Melayu.

I have been working on bringing to light the meaning to the whole concept of Traditional Malay Medicine and provide the logic in the use of various materia medica. At the same time I will attempt to analyse where such knowledge has seeped into the art of healing as praticed by my forefathers.

I have come from a family of healers. My paternal grandfather and grandmother were both reknown healers of their kampong. My grandmother used to treat the royal family of the state of Perak in the pre-war years (according to my mother). Unfortunately the art stopped upon their demise. None of their children has taken up the art. I am the first of my generation to take up the art of healing by traveling to Egypt to study white man's medicine.

Today, I have taken to task to revive the lost art by dedicating my life (or what's left of it) towards the study of manuscripts left behind by various people and analysing them. I hope to eventually publish my work as and when I complete a manuscript.

I very much welcome comments from whoever has the time to read my future postings on this topic.
